Mariners off-season moves
Please, Seattle, boycott the Seattle Mariners this year until they dump Chuckie, Bill the Bozo, and Howard the fat dumb-ass Lincoln.
They continue to make dumb move after dumb move...Soriano for some scrubb on Atlanta? Horocio? More like Horracio-orrible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Letting Meche go? I mean, he was one of the few pitchers last year with a winning record for God sakes....keeping Pinerio? Priceless...can't wait to see another 10-15 record with 5.84 ERA from him and ole' Washed-up Washburn.....
Here's to another shitty year, Mariner fans in 2007

Mariners are terrible to watch!!!
Can someone please end this season? Can we trade Richie Sexson? Can we get rid of the entire front office? Can we get a new owner? Thank God we have the Hawks to look forward to, who looked impressive against Indy. However, let's keep this in mind: the pre-season is a load of crap when it comes to these games.....it's basically a way for the NFL to earn more $$$. So, we don't write too often about the games here at SBB.
Keep coming back to the site during the start of the regular season as we will post comments on the upcoming Hawks game as well as our predictions for the all 17 weeks of the NFL season.

2006 Seattle Marines season is OVER!
As we predicted here at Seattle Sports Blog, another mediocre Seattle Mariner season with a mediocre ownership and front office. After getting their asses handed to them again by the A's and Texas, face it folks, this team sucks ass.
Bozo Basavi, Chuckie Armstrong, dumb ass Howard Lincoln, all need to go. Sexson needs to go, Washburn needs to go (great free agent signing there Bozo Basavi), Pinero and Meche...choose your average 10-10 pitcher here, Moyer needs to retire. The positives? Ichiro, Felix, Lopez, and finally, Beltre, look solid.
Make some changes, sell the fricking team Nintendo to someone who gives a damn....all you care about is making money with a shitty team. Anyone else realize how much money this team makes? Read it folks: http://www.forbes.com/lists/2006/33/331202.html Yep, that's right, your .500 Mariners are one of the top grossing teams in the majors? Why, because dumb-ass Mariner fans keep going to the games and selling out that stadium. Hey Seattle, wake the hell up, our team sucks! Quit supporting this team until the owners are willing to sacrafice some revenue for talent....Washburn is not talent. BTW, anyone see how well Guardado is doing???? Try a .83 ERA....anothe brilliant move Bozo Basavi!!!!

Time for the Mariners to face the music
As we predicted at the start of the season, the Mariners are right on track for that .500 roller-coaster season. They thrill you, they entice you, then, they disappoint you against thier division rival A's. I mean, 1-12 against any team is sad, very, very sad. This team is great against the low hanging fruit of MLB, however, pitted against top teams, they struggle mightily.
Changes? Many, and let's look at a few of them......
1. Drop Richie Sexson: We hate this guy almost as much as another Richie.....Rick Rizz that is. Sure, he gets you those 30+ HR's a year, but hitting .227 is a joke along with 200 strikeouts. Those #'s kill a team, bottom line. He's no Vlad Guerrero, that's for sure
2. Get rid of Basavi, Chuckie Armstrong, and Howard Lincoln....we've said this a thousand times, but something needs to change and it starts at the top. Follow the Seahawks as an example Mariners, and you'll be rewarded. Keep these yahoo's around, and you'll continue to see shitty Mariner teams around the .500 mark.
3. Seattle fans, you need to start making yourselves heard....I could hear pin-drops at a recent game at Safeco.....where are those crazy fans of 1995? You drink enough coffee for Pete's sake, make some noise, BOOOOOOOOO THE HELL OUT OF RICHIE SEXSON. Don't stand for this shit, make some noise!!!!!!!!!!!

Yankees have Mariners number
Anyone else disgusted by that deplorable showing by the Mariners last night? BLOWING a 4-2 lead in the 9th? We're still very skeptical of JJ. "I'm a Putz." The whole city of NY must laugh at our team. They whooped our asses in 2001, the "dream 116 win" season. NYY also hammered us in 2000 ACLS. There must be some serious angst against Seattle since the miracle of 1995.

2006 Seattle Mariners Blog
Kudos to the M's for sweeping the Giants over the weekend. Moyer, Meche, and Hernandez all pitched well and picked up the wins. That's how it done peeps, good pitching, timely hitting, and a strong, consistent bullpen. MVP this year? Ichiro. The guy is hitting an insane .370 and is just about impossible to get out. He is our spark plug. Let's give up some props to Mr. Beltre too. He's been hitting much more consistent in that #2 spot.
BTW, here is a great read for M's fans.....if we could land Schmidt next year, think of the possibilities!!!!

Oh, those sub-par M's, now riding at 31-37 after getting their ASSES handed to them by Oakland. It goes to show what a good GM and management can do...win, just as they continue to do in Oakland. Hey Bozo Basavi....how's that $$$$$$$$$ contract looking that you gave to a washed up Washburn? He's 4-8 with a 5.00+++ ERA....brilliant Bozo Basavi, brilliant.
This was an important road trip and this team did nothing to improve their position. What is it with Oakand? The cavernous foul territories? Those peskie fans banging drums in the outfield causing headache's for Seattle? Or, just face the facts Seattle, the Mariners are a sub-par team with sub-par management and ownership. To quote the Scorpions, it's time for the winds of change.......

M's playin' for keeps?
Ok, enough of those cheesy 1980's M's advertising ploys to get fans into the cement dome known as The Kingdome. Golly, gee, did Rick Rizz come up with those catchy M's slogan's himself? Ok, I'm done.
Great job in sweeping a team when they are down....the Angels have some serious pitching issues right now. A sweep? More than we were anticipating, and more is always better. Sexson, Ibanez, and Hernandez are my MVP's from this series. Even though we've been on Sexy Sexson here at SSB lately, he did have a clutch "Grand Salami" this weekend that put that game out of reach. Hernandez? We think he's definitely out of his "slump" from earlier this year.
Up next? A tough 3 game series with Oakland, who is coming off a sweep of their own, in NY, against those hated Yankees. Take 2 of 3 from Oaktown and this team is looking pretty good for competing in this batter American League West.

Critical time for M's
Taking 3 out of 4 from Kansas City should hopefully boost this team's ego for now. They have a tough series coming up against Minnesota, who has been giving Seattle a tough time this year (Seattle is 1-4 currently vs. Minn this year). If they can split (or even better go 3-1) w/ this series, the M's will be in good shape to head on the road to face the Angels and the A's. Seattle is, get this, 0-6 vs. the A's this year!!! A bit more respectable vs. LAA at 4-3, but as mentioned, this is a big turning point for this team. They are only 5 games out right now and cut into that margin w/ good, solid baseball these next couple of weeks. Beltre has been coming around and Lopez seems to be doing well as the #3. Sexson? Still a big mystery w/ that Dave Valle batting average.

Mariners pound rangers, 14-5
It appears that by moving Beltre into the #2 spot, he's more focused on producing singles vs. swinging for the fences (3 for 6 today w/ 3 singles, 2 RBI's, and 1 run scored). Moreover, moving Lopez into the #3 spot I think will be a good move. He's a .300 hitter w/ some pop in his bat. I'm fine w/ Beltre not hitting 30+ HR's if he's doing this type of hitting....he could easily be a .275 hitter w/ higher RBI totals and runs scored in the #2 spot. He's solid defensively, that's for sure.
Hernandez pitches so-so today, giving up the grand slam that otherwise ruined a solid outing. He'll need to pay attention to these type of mistakes and sock them away in the memory bank.
7 games back folks.....time to go on a 4-7 game winning streak, eh?

Mariners 3 game sweep
Those stock market M's are up 3 points this week w/ a great 3 game sweep of the Padres. Let's give it up for a few players:
Ichiro: hitting .314 now and really coming through in the clutch lately. He is the key to this team's success, bottom line
Carl Everett: our top power guy right now, hitting .265 w/ 7 HR's. So far, so good for this guy, but you never know when he might implode
Lopez: Team MVP still, hitting .304 w/ 6 HR's and 34 RBI's, which is leading the team
Washburn: we've been hard on this guy this year, but his 2-5 record is misleading given a 3.81 ERA
If they can keep this up against Baltimore, they can close the gap on the 3 game lead held by Oakland. This division is going to be rocky all year long at best.

Mariners blog
Here we go again, on the downturn of a 3 game losing streak to the A's....and the rollercoaster ride to a sub-par .500 season. When is the NBA draft? When do the Hawks start playing again? When does UW Hoops start again? Getting swept is one thing, getting your ass handed to you is another.
Let's face the facts here people....and NOT sugercoat everything that the Seattle papers are trying to convey:
1. Felix Hernandez is not healthy enough to be playing (or, he's just not ready this year). Phenom? Yes at 19, but he's 2-5 this year w/ a 5.00+ era and fading fast after that deplorable A's game. Send him to the minors and get him "major league ready."
2. Bozo Basavi's 2 major, major pick up's are not performing. Beltre? .202, 2 HR's. Sexson? 201 w/ 4 HR's and close to leading the way in strikeouts again in 2006. The Mariners will not be a good team until the get rid of Basavi, Howard Lincoln, and Chuckie Armstrong. It's time for change folks
![]() |
![]() |
3. If this team is able to make something of this year, and they certainly can only being 5 games back, it needs to happen now. At 17-25, their next 3 opponents are all struggling: San Diego, Baltimore (coming off a 13 game losing streak), and Minn. Seattle SHOULD be able to take 2-3 from all these teams, and in some instances, sweep. Otherwise, it's only going to widen the gap vs. the other teams in their division.

Putz the new Mariner closer?
Looks like that's the trend w/ his latest save from the 6-3 win over Tampa Bay. As much as we (SSB) have been on this guys case, heck, if he can get the job done, so be it! I still think this team needs some reshuffling to the line-up. Specifically, Richie Rich Sexson. .193 batting average? I mean, even Beltre's hitting .220 now, move him into the four spot until Sexson picks it up. Ichiro, Lopez, Kenji, and Ibanez are the bright stars for this team so far in 2006. This team is still only 4.5 games back in a very, very weak division
Oh by the way, the Sonics-Nuggets series of 1993 was voted the biggest upset in playoff history by SI.....GREAT!

Here's his stats...it seems like his only blow-up of his career is this year: Eddie Guardado

Are we going to hear the same crap from Hargrove tomorrow? "He's still our guy." Eddie, get off the doughnuts and sit your ass down...you obviously have your mind on something other than winning games. Seattle would be 14-13 if this dough boy handn't blown 3 saves!!! 2 to Chicago on bottom of the ninth HR's. He's lost it folks....SIT DOWN!

Mariners pull out 2 of 3 from Chicago
They're like the Microsoft stock: they win some, they lose some, and in the end, the end up right around the same place they started. I'll give Jarod Washburn some prop's from that performance. Still, anyone out there think he's going to do anything else than a 12-12 season w/ a 4.25 ERA?
From our earlier post regarding Bosavi moves, I take back what I was saying about Reed. He's no longer a "so-so" OF, now hitting a whopping .206! I mean, how much did Bozo really scout these guys? Or did he just wilt under the pressure to release Freddy since he requested to be traded?

Mariners trades
Wonder why the Mariners are struggling these days?
Let's take a look at the brilliant moves by Howard "I should not be the CEO of the Mariners", Chuckie Armstrong, and Bill "Bozo" Basavi:
Trade: Reed, Olivo, and Mike Morse for Freddy Garcia. Reed is still w/ the team and doing a so-so job in CF....still, you would like better HR and average #'s from your outfielder. Morse and Olivo? Morse is out of the league, Olivo is tearing it up for the Marlins, hitting .300 w/ 3 HR's. Garcia? All he did was pitch a shutout in the World Series last year, go 14-8 w/ a 3.87 ERA, and is already 3-1 in 2006. Status? Brilliant move M's!
Trade: Randy Winn for Torrealba and Foppert. Winn hit .359 last year w/ the Giants and it already hitting over .300 for them this year. Torrealba? No longer w/ the M's, and even when we had him, he hit .240 w/ 2 HR's. Foppert? Can't seem to find his information anywhere.....tumble weeds. Status? Brilliant moves M's!
Free Agents: Beltre, Washburn, Sexson: Sexson is the only bright spot on this list, but is hitting .260 w/ 40 HR's and 160+ strikeouts what we need? I'd take a .300 hitter w/ 30 HR's and 130 RBI's any day.....we should have gone after Guerrero harder. Belte and Washburn? How's a .111 batting average for Beltre and a 1-3 mark for Washburn sound? Status? Brilliant moves M's!
Time for Nintendo to fire Lincoln, Basavi, and Chuckie...NOW!

7-13 Mariners? Time for some changes?
Let's take a poll:
Who will be the first to go?
A. Chuckie "I can't run an organization" Armstrong?
B. Bill "Bozo" Basavi?
C. Beltre "I can't hit a HR or hit for average in Seattle" Beltre?
D. The deep porches in Safeco? We might be able to attract some real baseball players if Safeco was smaller
E. Mike "I rode the coat tails on a stacked Cleveland team where I really didn't have to manage and now I'm stuck in Seattle" Hargrove?
Seattle, the Mariners are in real trouble and if changes don't come quick, achieving .500 might be a challenge. What's interesting is Forbes.com list the Mariners as the 8th most profitable team in baseball....think that will last when they start attracting 8,000 fans a game like they used to do from 1982 to 1994? Hey Nintendo, wake up!?!?!? Make this team better or we won't come to the games!!!!

Great blown win, Mariners
Up 5-4 in the 8th, who do they bring in? Mr. consistancy himself, that's right folks, JJ. "I wish I wasn't such a Putz" to give up the tying run. Ok, ok, you settle down, game is now tied going into the 9th. Seattle strings together a couple of singles, a groundout, and waamo! 6-5 lead. Oh, but wait, "steady Eddie" is coming in to save the game, Mr. 9.00 ERA (soon to be 12.00 ERA). Strike out, strike out, single, home run to Mark Loretta, BALL Game! Is he the next Ayalya? Let's hope not.

2006 Seattle Mariners
....are starting to show their true colors. Absolutely LOVE these batting averages......Ichiro .176, Beltre .148, Jurassic Carl .115.
Hey folks, do you know how much Seattle is paying Beltre? $12,900,000 per year!!!!!! He hit 19 homers last year folks....that's $630K per Home Run. Damn, I could do better than that! Of course, he tore it up during the World Series Classic for the Dominican Republic. Maybe the M's should be more involved in the country so Adrian feels more at home...
BTW, who the hell is Jeff Pentland, the M's hitting coach? Bozo Basavi and Chuckie Armstrong are picking some cream of the crop, let me tell ya.

Mariners 2006
OK, so the verdict's still out on this team (especially Beltre and the bullpen), but I'm liking what I'm seeing so far. What has impressed me most is K.Johjima....he is CONTROLLING the Seattle pitches, making good decisions w/ pitch calls, and has a strong bat. I know I'll piss off a lot of mom's in Seattle saying this, but ole' softy Dan Wilson should have been let go about 4 years ago. We finally have a good catcher it appears, and like in basketball w/ point gaurds, smart catchers win games.

Mariners 2006 season
Anyone all that excited about this team this year? I'm not, that's for sure. Pickups like Jurassic Carl, Lawton, and Washburn are nice, but what this team really needed was some STRONG starting pitching and better middle relief. These were NOT addressed in the offseason. Can the Mariners please dump dumb ass Chuck Armstrong and Bill Basavi? Hey Basavi, still think that Randy Winn trade was a smart one? Please, someone get Chuck Armstrong out of power in Seattle.....in case you didn't know it, he has more power in the M's organization than the common public knows.....get his ass out of there!
The 2006 Mariners and for the foreseable future are going to be a sub .500 team unless some changes are made. Bring in top management like the Hawks did...and you start winning. What a novel concept, except for the fact that the M's are too cheap to make any real moves. Go Nintendo!

Mariners sign Everett
Are we going back to the days of signing Gorman Thomas? Or better yet, the Dinosaur ear? Unless this team signs Millwood, look out for ANOTHER 90 loss season in 06'. Everett is old and has had 1-2 good (not great) years in MLB. Unless they get serious production out of their younger pitching, they are in trouble. Not a big fan of Bavasi's moves so far this off-season.....

2006 M's offseason moves
Well, more and more teams are sowing up top free agents this off-season. What are the Mariners and that guy Howard Lincoln doing this year? Let's be honest folks, this is still his team regardless of the GM and he's making the majority of the moves. I'm not a big fan of him to be honest w/ you and I don't see this team ever winning a WS until they have new ownership or there is a salary cap in baseball (hmmm, maybe in 2045?). Teams have to be aggressive in this baseball market and I don't see or hear us going after anyone big. It's like clockwork w/ this team in the offseason. Every year they continue to say "we're going after big pitching prospects" etc, and then nothing gets done. Beltre and Sexon certainly addressed the need for defense and power...but where's the pitching?

M's on a bit of a streak
They seem to be turning things around a bit lately. SP Pitching has been strong of late w/ solid performances from Sele, Moyer, Meche, and even Franklin (still 3-8 on the year). Ichiro and Sexton has also been stepping up. Boone still seems to be in a funk, however. I still think they have a shot at the div title or wildcard. I guess we'll see where the team is come the trading deadline and hopefully they'll be in a place to pick up a solid SP.

All Time M's Team
All right M's Fans, it's time to vote for your All Time M's team. Here's my players that I'm picking:
C: D. Wilson
comment: can't really stand double play Dan, but he's been w/ the team since 95' and has produced a few years.
runner up: Bob Kearney
MISTAKE: Trading Varitek
1B: Alvin Davis
comment: Mr. Mariner, enough said
2B: Tie between Boone and H. Reynold
comment: Boone's been solid the last couple of years, but Harold was also an all star and the only marque guy Seattle had for a number of years
SS: A-rod
comment: as much as I hate the guy for leaving, he'll go down in history as one of the best. I just hope the tool never wins a World Series
3B: Jim Pressley
comment: "Impressive Press" still is etched in my mind as a kid as a solid 3 bagger. Beltre has the potential to win out here. Blowers is a close second for now.
RF: Ichiro
comment: no debate here, even though Buhner was a stud. Ichiro is a much better hitter and defensive player.
CF: Griffey
comment: no debate here at all
LF: Hmmmm, toughy here John Moses? Mickey Brantly? Phil Bradley?
comment: no dominant LF here that comes to mind
SP: R. Johnson
comment: best M in the early to late 90's....and fit in well w/ the Seattle fans w/ the mullet
MISTAKE: letting this guy go.....good ole Woody Woodward thought his career was done in 98...Randy, kudos to you for continuing to ball
rest of SP: Moyer, Langston, M. Moore.
RP: Sasaski
comment: Schooler, Ayala, Bill Caudell, and Charleton had a few good years, but all of them had really, really bad years. Ayala was the worst, giving up 6 grand slams in one year (no wonder why Grif and Arod left). Sasaski was unstoppable
Let me know your thoughts here crew!

Those up and Down M's
Just after they take the series against FL, you start to think this team might be on the right path. Then, the run into the Expos/Nationals and the wheels fall off. Beltre's time to step up is now. He's one of the top paid players in the game, and here's his line last night: 0-5 w/ 5 LOB (Left on Base for you amateurs). He's hitting a whopping .237. Adrian, spend some time in the cage my man.

What's up w/ the Mariners?
Yeah, yeah, Beltre's off to a tough start, but there's something else going on here. Boone, Reed, and Sexson are all hitting below .250, which isn't bad, but there just doesn't seem to be much in regards to run production. Is it Ichiro? Should he be moved to clean-up? What do you think pitchers fear most? Belte w/ one on (most likely Ichiro) who's hitting .223, or Ichiro w/ the bases loaded and no outs? What about having Reed lead off, followed by Winn, and Beltre w/ Ichiro batting fourth? Given this teams horrible start, it might not be a bad idea.
Pitching seems to be so-so as well. Franklin has proven he is NOT starting material. Guardardo has done a "steady-Eddy" job in the bullpen, so I don't think it's an Ayala situation. It will be interesting to see how Madtrich does coming back hopefully full steam. Sele also seems to be struggling, however, if you remember, he had a 4.51 ERA when he won 17 games w/ the M's a few years back. He's an ok pitcher when he gets run support, bottom line.
I expect this team to turn things around, but it will be difficult to do w/ their upcomming schedule w/ Boston and NY on the road (especially given NY's desperate need for W's). This team needs to stay positive and weather this storm.
