The Seattle Mariners have announced that 2 former Everett AquaSox coaches have been promoted. AquaSox manager Pedro Grifol has been named the Mariners Coordinator of Minor League Instruction, while former Everett pitching coach Rafael Chaves has been named the new pitching coach of the Seattle Mariners. Grifol managed the the team for 3 years from 2003 through 2005 compiling a 115-113 record during his tenure. "Pedro will be a great addition to the player development staff as Coordinator of Instruction," say Frank Mattox, Director of Player Development. "He brings valuable knowledge not only as a former player, but also as a manager and a scout. He's a good instructor, a good baseball man and a guy with a lot of character and presence." Rafael Chaves was the pitching coach in Everett for the 1999 season, he has spent 8 years as a coach within the Mariner's organization.
