"The Good, The bad, and The Ugly for the Hawks on Sunday"
This game has as many highs and lows of any football game I've seen in a while. The Cincinnati Bengals are a GOOD football team, no doubt about it. Their defense is not all that great and I thought we would/should have scored more points, but our offense once again struggled early. Shaun has got to come out the gates stronger or we're going to be down against San Francisco this weekend 24-0 before we know it. Should he stretch more before the game? Should he rep harder in pre-game? Who knows, but something's got to change.
Here are Seattle Sports Blog's +'s and -'s from the game yesterday:
The Good:
1. We have been harping on Matt Hasselbeck not being a clutch QB...well, he proved us wrong yesterday. The 3rd and 10 imprompt roll out to Branch was a gutsy play on his part and it proved to be the needed spark to get us in a position to finish off Cincy. His throw to Burleson couldn't have been placed any better.
2. Deon and Brian: Wow, what a 125% improvement at both safety position for the Hawks this year with Russell and Grant. BIG improvements, and it goes to show that Hamlin and Boulware didn't know what they were doing in our defense. Both safeties never got beat deep yesterday on numerous attempts. That was money well spent this offseason
3. Special Teams: The Josh Wilson opening drive and forced fumble were huge, game changing events.
4. Bobby Engram and Burleson....clutch. How many times has Hasselbeck found Engram over the middle
The Bad:
1. Our "bend but don't break" defense, run by Mr. conservative "I can't disguise blitzes" John Marshall STILL did not impress yesterday. Yes, Cincy is a good team, Yes, Johnson and T.J are amazing WR's, but we need to get more pressure on Palmer yesterday and we failed to do it. Why not do what ALL NFL teams are doing these days and crowd the line with FS/SS and LB's, that way, the offense has no idea where the blitz is coming from. Marshall just doesn't get it
2. Lofa: I love this guy for his leadership and tenacity, but he is still out of position a lot of the time and being bulled over in the middle. Spend less time on the Seahawks cruises Lofa and start hitting the weight room. He had 3 tackles yesterday, which I think was even inflated.
3. Marcus Pollard: in the West Coast offense, our TE is critical and Pollard is not stepping up. Granted, we ran a lot of 3 and 4 WR sets yesterday, however, when the ball was thrown his way, he dropped a perfect pass that turned into a INT. If this does not improve next week, let's get Heller in there...younger, stronger, and can catch
The Ugly: The Seattle Police department vs. "the streaker". Our dounut eating city police has no change against a guy that looked like he was running a 4.4! Sign him up!!
Next up, a pesky San Francisco team that is going to be hungry after getting their butts handed to them vs. Pittsburgh

Everyone is on Alexander for blowing the audible, but we also need to look at the QB. Why in the world did Hasselbeck decide to call an audible with a minute left in the game and we are driving? Everyone and their mom knows that we are running the ball up the gut, so if he calls left dive or right dive, it shouldn't matter.....go with what the coach calls Matt. I hate to say it, but Matt is not a good QB under pressure.....GB playoff game, the Chicago Playoff game last year....the year we went to the SB we handled WA and Carolina easily at home. Pitt in SB? He cracked again.
Also, can someone please replace Marshall as the Def Cord? His conservative play calling and inability to disguise blitzes is costing this team.
Hydroplane blog:
Kudos to both the Oberto team for the win in San Diego and to the Elam team for winning both the National Points and Driver championship for 2007. No one flipped in San Diego and it sounds like the racing in the final was intense! It also sounds like Billy S is up to his old wizardry ways and is looking to build a new boat in 2008. We are really looking forward to what they have to offer again next year.

Seattle Mariners and Seahawks Blog
Seattle Mariners Blog:
It's all a little too late for these guys I'm afraid for 2007. They gave us a good run, made things interesting for a while, but Bavasi's dumb moves eventually caught up to him. Whether it's whom he chooses for our SP rotation or through trades, this guy is a cancer. I'm hoping that Ninento wises up, clears out the front office of Chuckie Armstrong and Howard Lincoln AND Bill Bavasi and starts new. McLaren? Too early to tell still, but a sub .500% winning percentage as manager sure doesn't look too hot. The few moves that Bavasi made this last off-season he got lucky with, especially Guillen and Vidro. The rest? Mistake, after mistake, after mistake. Onto the Seahawks, our one shining star in Seattle...
Keys to the game this weekend for Seattle to beat Arizona:
1. Similar to last week, control the ball and don't make turnovers. Arizona is going to come out guns a blarin' so we need to be prepared to weather the storm.
2. Get the ball to Deon: He is a fricking stud, get him on a few reverses, screens, whatever, get the guy the damn ball! (No reference to Keyshawn of course :))
3. Run, run, run. AZ has a paper mache defense and can be exploited early and often. Go for the throat early, get up, and don't look back.
4. Blitz the HELL out of Leinhart. He is young and their offensive line is weak. Blitz, blitz, and more blitz and disguise them well.
Stay focused Hawks and we should be 2-0.

Hawks pull off tough win
Seattle Seahawks Blog:
It wasn't pretty, but a W is a W in the NFL and I think we came out of the gates better than expected (at least in the second half). Gruden is a smart coach folks, no mistakes about it, and will always have his teams ready.
What worked:
1. Defense: looked dominating and we put a ton of pressure on their QB's. Lofa made a nice strip, Peterson was everywhere and we did a great job of stuffing their run.
2. Offense: Hasselbeck was consistent, didn't make any mistakes. That's exactly what we need from him....great job Matt in spreading the ball around and getting the majority of our recievers involved. Shaun looked a little slow in the first half but then picked things up in the second half. Burleson also gets one of our game ball from yesterday....great catches, great returns, minus the fumble.
3. Getting rid of Stevens and Hamlin: it's nice to watch this team without it's typical cancers....Stevens didn't do crap yesterday and Hamlin got BURNT on the second play of the game for a 70 yard TD. He was then flagged for a 15 yard unessary roughness penalty....SEE YA LATER tools!
What needed improvements:
1. Getting the ball to Branch. He's too much of an asset not to get him the ball. Run him a reverse, get him a screen, anything.
2. Trick play: Thank GOD we ran a trick play, and it would have worked if Jones made the block....Branch or Hackett were WIDE open down field. Keep running at least one of these a game...mix it up Holmgren, it does wonders to keep the defense honest and on their toes.
3. Offensive execution....we should have beat these guys 40-10. TB was 4-12 last year and despite how good of coach Gruden is, they are still a long way from being a .500 club. Expect a tough battle next week vs. a hungry Arizona team.

Great article on the Hawks
Seattle Seahawks Blog:
Make no mistake, the Seattle crowd will be pumped up for this weekend's game. Let's hope Holmgren has the troops ready for action and won't lay a dude as we have done the last 2 years first games.
Here's the article form the Sports Guy on ESPN....it couldn't be more dead on. Sent by a fellow Seattle Sports Blog fan from the Bay Area:
I wrote it last week, I'll write it again: Everyone is sleeping on these
guys. They finished 9-7 during a season when nearly everything went wrong;
now they're healthy and happy; they dumped their clubhouse cancer guys; they
added a pass rusher (Patrick Kerney) and an overqualified defensive
assistant (Jim Mora Jr., who nearly made the Super Bowl 30 months ago);
they're playing in one of the easiest divisions (the NFC West); and they'll
probably be favored in every 2007 game except Pittsburgh in Week 5 and
Philly in Week 12. And it's not like they haven't done it before. Throw in
their homefield advantage and skill position guys and they seem like the
safest bet in the NFC.
So why can you currently get 25-to-1 Super Bowl odds for them in Vegas?
Because it's no fun to pick the Seahawks. They've been there before, they
play in a smaller market, they have a bald quarterback, their uniforms are
boring, their best player is boring, their coach looks like he should be
wearing a sheriff's outfit and buying donuts, and if you say you've met more
than three Seahawks fans in your entire life and you're not from Seattle,
you're lying. Really, the only thing that stands out about them is their
crowd. Switch their roster with Dallas' roster and they'd be 7-to-1 odds
right now. Since they're in Seattle, nobody cares yet. But you will. Give it
a couple of months.
