Seattle Mariners Blog:
This team, in a nutshell, it's beyond the "over-achiever" status as they continue to just do the bottom line, WIN. They are in a prime position to take this division with the Angels swaggering. I'm looking forward to the next series they have with them to prove who is the real deal in this division.
Concerns, however? Yes, many. Something still needs to be done with Richie Sexson. Yes, he can be the big bopper, but we sacrafice a lot putting that guy in crucial situations hitting .201. Keep him platooning with Brousrd. 75/25% of the time and we should be ok. Keep him also in the #6-#8 spots. He does NOT deserve to be in the #5 slot right now.
Starting pitching. Are we going to content with our current pitching staff? NO, we have a great bullpen, and average starting pithching. Who's our ace? Felix? Judging by how well Washburn has been pitching, my gut is with him. Seattle needs to be SERIOUS and pick up a Dontrell Willis. Trading deadline is in 2 week people and you can bet your bottom dollar that the Yankees and Red Sox are making moves. Time to step up, or lose momentum.
