2008 is the Hawks year
Considering how terrible the rest of the Seattle sports scene is these days, we like to look ahead here at Seattle Sports Blog.
2008 will HAVE to be the year that Seattle Seahawks put together a championship run.
Here are our reasons.
#1: Hasselbeck, Jackson, and Alexander are in their prime year and 1 or 2 of these guys will be on the decline after next year (especially Alexander)
#2: Our defense should be much improved next year with Mora helping out Marshall. We're hoping that Mora takes over the position of defensive coordinator to be honest with you.
#3: The Superbowl is FINALLY on the west coast in Phoenix......we could do what the Steelers did to us and have 80% of the fans there rooting for Seattle. We would also be familiar playing on that field.
#4: Holmgren is closing in on retirement...don't know how much he has in the tank
#5: It's our DAMN time to win a championship for the city......bottom line

Matt Hasselbeck and Shaun Alexander stats
Take a look at some interesting #'s from both of these guys....what is most surprising to us is the amount of fumbles Mr. Alexander had in LIMITED play this year. Was he focused? Or content with a fat contract? Any way you look at it, 6 fumbles are TOO many.
Game Fumbles Fumbles LOST
2000 Seattle Seahawks 16 2 2
2001 Seattle Seahawks 16 4 4
2002 Seattle Seahawks 16 3 1
2003 Seattle Seahawks 16 4 3
2004 Seattle Seahawks 16 5 3
2005 Seattle Seahawks 16 5 1
2006 Seattle Seahawks 10 6 3
Moreover, in our assessment of Mr. Hasselbeck, we conclude our hypothesis....he really is an average QB. To us, he's had 2 GOOD years......2003 and 2005....all others are suspect.
Yards TD INT QB Rating
2001 Seattle Seahawks 2,023 7 8 70.9%
2002 Seattle Seahawks 3,075 15 10 87.8%
2003 Seattle Seahawks 3,841 26 15 88.8%
2004 Seattle Seahawks 3,382 22 15 83.1%
2005 Seattle Seahawks 3,459 24 9 98.2%
2006 Seattle Seahawks 2,442 18 15 76.1%
Look at Manning, Farve, Brady, Brees, and Rivers stats...all well over 90%+ passing ratio for their careers...something Matt has done once.
Don't get us wrong, we are very appreciative of our QB, however, we think he can do better. Read some books, become mentally tougher, and take this team to the promised land. You're our QB, we just need for you to play smarter. Look at what Phil Jackson did for Shaq and Jordan....got them the mind philosophy books, and they approved. Do the same Matt, do the same.

So ends the Hawks season
Seattle Seahawks Blog:
Well, in all honesty, we all know that Seattle should have not even been in this position given the Dallas game. It still pained us to watch that game.....so many chances, so many blown opportunities, so many bad decisions.
Here are our thoughts for a recap of the Bears game. We'll post a blog in a few days for our thoughts on the next year.
Bears Game:
1. Matt has been a "good" quarterback, but he is lacking that Brady exstinct. You would think a guy from Boston College would be a smarter QB who makes good decisions. He had plenty of protection yesterday and his WR's were for the most part healthy (minus Hackett). Holmgren's offenses used to thrive on the screen pass. However, Mike knows that Matt cannot throw that simple pass or sell the fake enough, so we've pretty much abandonded that aspect of the West Coast offense.
It's time for a change in Seattle. Unfortunately, we have no top draft picks, so who do we go after? Michael Vick? We know about his mental lapses as well. Trade up for a Brady Quinn? Then you start to think he might be another Rick Mirer. Seneca? Not sure he's mentally able either after that KC game. Which leads to us David Greene. An 11-1 quarterback at a top southern school of Georgia. I like the fact that he's a lefty and can scramble a bit. He's my choice for QB in 2007.
2. Holmgren's play calling: we are a GOOD offense, not great, and his conservative play calling has in turn bitten us in the ass. Besides the NYG game, when did Seattle put up 30+ points this year? In the Chicago game, the fourth and one calls were absolutely horrible, just horrible. How about a play action pass? We were 1-3 on fourth downs in this game and in all honesty, Alexander should have been stuffed on that goaline play.
3. Defense: Not much you can do when you have a cop playing DB for you. We thought Jennings and Babaneax played well in their roles. We'd like to see Babaneax as a starter at safety next year and take softie softerson Hamlin out of the line-up. Also, Lofa and Hill continued to get bottled up inside and the Bears pounded us up the gut. Pass rush was moderate, but we could use a bit more speed at DE (Winstrom is done!)
Any other thoughts out there from our bloggers? Another year, another disappointment for Seattle fans.......we ALL know that those Basavi lead Mariners aren't doing shit this year and the Sonics are in the toilet.....Go Thunderbirds?!?!?!??!?!!

Final thoughts on the Hawks playoff game
1. Play smart, consistent: no TO's on offense!
2. Sack Rexy....he's a tool, just get to him and he'll throw picks
3. Contain Hester: the guy is Chicago's only weapon......contain him, and we got the game
4. Shaun needs 125 yards+ for a win
5. Someone has got to step up.......Stevens, Engram, Brown WE NEED YOU!
And most important..............
Just win Hawks....and take it to these smucks (Both City and Team)
GO HAWKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

UW Hoops 2007 are officially in trouble
Washington Huskies Men's basketball blog:
How times have changed
When we first looked at the UW men's basketball team this year, we were more concerned with how long we might be able to keep this top caliber talent around: Hawes, Pondexter, Brockman were sure bets in the NBA, we all thought. As UW weaved their way through their powder-puff early schedule, one thing was clear: they were not "handling" these mediocre teams as much as they should have. That should have been a first sign
Now, posting a 1-4 conference record, they are in serious danger of NOT even making the NCAA basketball tournament. The win over LSU was nice, but not proving much given LSU's record of late.
Here are a few issues that we picked up on from last night's game:
--Appleby, for as great of a shooter he is, continues to get scorched on defense. Not only off the dribble, but guards are basically just shooting right over him. We do not think he is the answer at point guard....BTW, what the HELL was he thinking fouling with .29 seconds left? Did he not know the score?!?!?!?!
--Dentmon proved he should be back in the starting line-up....he played well last night...still, 3 TURNOVERS! The guy is not the world's greatest dribbler, bottom line
--Hawes and Brockman is not ready for the pro's....they should consider staying at UW one more year. Brockman is more polished than Hawes and might be a second round pick. They are guestimating Hawes as a lottery pick, but against 2 average 7 footers last night, he was dominated. He needs to hit the weights and become more flexible...Yoga or Pilates might help....just ask Kareem Abdul-Jabber.
--Bad execution down the strech: we blame this again on Romar...are you education your players in the huddle what the score is? Are you practicing free throws enough? Pondexter and Hawes shooting 1-4 killed us, absolutely killed us.
--Nelson and Oliver show freshman colors. We like both of these guys, however, they are only freshman, and freshman make mistakes like those two costly turnovers down the strech. Let's hope Nelson is not the second coming of Tre Simmons...the guy could shoot, but other than that, was a waste of space. Nelson seems like he can drive and dish, but needs to improve.
Overall, this may turn out to be a transistion year for UW, which is unfortunate given the expectations.
UW hoops are officially in trouble

All is too quiet in Hawkland
Come on Hawk fans, let's start talking some smack about the Bears. How about that loss to Carolina last year? How about how lame Rex Grossman is? How about how much it sucks to live in the midwest?

Seahawks pull off miracle finish
Seattle Seahawks Blog:
Well, it wasn't pretty and we have been on the losing end of plenty of those types of games (i.e. Vinny Testeverde Jets goaline game in 1998)....but as they say, a win is a win, especially in the playoffs. Dallas played just about as bad as a team could play and left the door open for Seattle to win. T.O.? 2 dropped passes on 3rd downs...ouch. Fumble on the goaline? Lucky, but what a play by Jennings. He may be small, but he covered well enough throughout the night and the forced fumble paved the way for Stevens TD.
Speaking of Stevens, with Jackson and Hackett out, he played like a stud. 2 HUGE TD's in this game and no dropped passes. He and Jennings get our game balls for the win....along with Romo :).
It's early in the week, but never too early to start talking about keys to the game for the Chicago game.
Here's our keys to the game vs. Chicago:
1. Get up early and hold on. If Seattle can get a 14-0 quick lead and just stay consistent, they can win.
2. Hasselbeck consistent. No INT's for Pete's sake! He cannot expect to throw those type of INT's in the Dallas game and win in Chicago...no way, no how
3. Mo Morris....more like MORE Morris. Shaun Alexander is not running with much mojo right now and is getting consistantly stopped at the line. Get Morris 5-7 carries just to mix things up a bit
4. Trickery beats better teams. I think we all know that the Hawks were a better team than Pittsburgh last year, but that ONE trick play ended up winning the game for Pittsburgh. Please, oh please, Holmgrem, call a frickin' trick play at some point. It will keep Chicago's defense on their heels. Besides, being the underdogs, what the heck do we have to lose?
5. Consistent Defense: Great job by our DB's last game in the "bend but don't break" philosophy. Keep Grossman under pressure and we win. Chicago has no one on offense that really scares us

Keys to the game: Seahawks Dallas Playoffs
It's going to be our CB's and FS and SS to have to come up big.....Jennings and Babaneax are going to get beat, that's a given...it's up to Hamlin and Boulware to step up and step in front of some of those passes.
This will need to be a team effort, no doubt about it. No fumbles or stupid INT's on offense...give Hass time to pass and hit his receivers. Without Trufant or D-Jax, this is going to be a tough game to win. We're hoping for a 20-17 Hawk win. No matter what, it's going to be a close game.

Sugar Bowl Advertising
Sugar Bowl Advertising 2007:
Sports Advertising has reached an alltime low.....
The fact that Fox Sports allowed the "Allstate" name to appear in the top right hand corner of the Sugerbowl was one of the worst decisions EVER made. It's bad enough that we have to see "Allstate" in the end zones after TD's, on 3 logo placements during the game on the field, on the players jerseys, etc., etc, etc....but having their corporate name displayed in the score ticker was a stupid decision by Fox Sports. What was even worse was that you couldn't even read the "Sugar Bowl" name next to it.....bad bad move by Fox and the Sugar Bowl committee. IOverall, just a bad the decision to post "Allstate" in the score ticker spot. To all of our visitors: never use Allstate for insurance purposes simply because of this distasteful advertising.

UW gets asses handed to them by UCLA
There is no other way to describe that deplorable showing by UW vs. UCLA other than they got their butts kicked. Where was the D? Where was our domination down below?
UW's biggest problem? Finding a true point guard to lead this team. Justin Dentmon cannot shoot 2-8 and have 4 assist in the biggest game of the year. His line should look like this: 3-5 shooting with 9 assist. Get the ball to the proven scores: Hawes, Brockman, Nelson, Appleby, and Pondexter.
Let's hope that Romar makes some adjustments soon.....can Appleby be the point gaurd? We shall see......we also think that UW desperately needs to get O Smith back soon.
BTW, Boise State over Oklahoma last night...what a game, what an ending....
