Wild, wild racing in Tri-cites
Congrads to Mr. Villwock and the Elam Plus U-1 hydroplane on winning the 2006 Tri-cities hydroplane race. Talk about a wild and windy afternoon...the final heat didn't start until 6:30 at night! They are going to have to start putting headlights on these things!
Check out this photo of the U-13 narrowly missing a full collision with the U-6 Oberto boat(they still hit the backend of the boat). Can you imagine what that must look like from up there???????

Not sure if it's global warming or what, but the races this week in Tri-cities were delayed due to strong winds and high heat.....so much so that 2 boats flipped, one of which, The Miss Elam, won the race!!!! Hard to believe that happened, but it's been done before in 1997 in the Miss Pico driven by Mark Evans.
Should be equally as crazy as they head to Seattle for Seafair!!!!

Seattle Sports Blog in the Seattle Times
Check out our note in the Seattle Times: http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/sports/2003139239_whatsaid20.html
There is little loyalty for cities in the NBA for franchises with [David] Stern as the commish. Look at the San Diego Clippers, New Orleans Jazz, Charlotte Hornets, Vancouver Grizzlies. Unlike the NFL, which put the kibosh on the Hawks moving, I don't see the same happening with the Sonics. The NBA figures that Seattle fans will just latch onto the Blazers and we'll become the Northwest NBA franchise, similar to how Idaho, Montana and Oregon have a good deal of Hawks fans.
The writing is on the wall...even if the city council comes up with a master plan, the team is gone and has 100 percent affirmation from Stern to do so.

Yankees have Mariners number
Anyone else disgusted by that deplorable showing by the Mariners last night? BLOWING a 4-2 lead in the 9th? We're still very skeptical of JJ. "I'm a Putz." The whole city of NY must laugh at our team. They whooped our asses in 2001, the "dream 116 win" season. NYY also hammered us in 2000 ACLS. There must be some serious angst against Seattle since the miracle of 1995.

Sonics moving to Oklahoma
The City of Seattle and it's council are the absolute WORST in the country. They have no idea how to make a decision...i.e. Sonics, i.e. Monorail, i.e. make Seattle greener by putting in more parks vs. all the damn parking lots. I can't believe we are letting the Sonics go....let's be honest people, this issue is not getting resolved and the team is gone in 2 years, simple as that. Seattle is such a joke of a city sometimes.......

U-37 Beacon Plumbing wins 2006 Gold Cup
Congratulations to Billy Schumacher, Jean Theoret, and the entire U-37 Miss Beacon Plumbing Hydroplane for winning the 2006 Gold Cup!
![]() |
Theoret is the first non-US citizen hydroplane driver to win the Gold Cup since 1938...what a feat!!!! Quote of the weekend from Jean...."I was coming down the back straight, and I saw this cowling in the water. I thought, 'Hey, that's mine. It's red and yellow.' But the boat just drove beautifully."

Biggest news for Hydroplanes since Chip Hanauer!
WOW, this is huge huge news for a sport that is really on the rebound.....
http://www.abrahydroplanes.com/index.cfm?page=ABRA-on-TV
This is a perfect opportunity for the sport to pick up popularity and a few major sponsors with Fox. I've always said, Hydroplane racing could be as popular as NASCAR given the right exposure and interest. Sports fans are always looking for the latest and greatest new thing, and hopefully with the Budwieser gone, this sport can pick things up again.
Good luck to the Hydroplanes in 2006 and beyond!

UW football 2006 blog
Anyone else sharing in any type of optimism for UW football 2006?
Good article from CBS Sportsline (forwarded from a loyal SBB reader): http://www.sportsline.com/collegefootball/story/9549650>
Tough to say at this point our view here at SBB for this team in 2006. UW football has had such a strong winning tradition in Seattle that it's hard to believe we went 2-9 and 1-11 the last 2 years.
We here at SBB wish Ty W. wouldn't be scheduling such a difficult non-conference schedule, at least while we're shitty. Get a couple of 9-2 seasons under your belts against the average Pac-10 teams and THEN start going against better non-conference teams.
UW football 2006: They should stive for a .500 record this year and go from there.......

This guy lives and writes for Kansas City, loserville USA and home to a lot of really dumb people, especially Jason Whitlock.

U.S. World Cup
Great article from Sports Illustrated on the state of U.S. soccer in the World Cup.
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/writers/luis_bueno/07/06/concacaf.stinks/index.html
The only other point we'd like to make is that the U.S. could also use additional time playing together. There were reports that McBride and Donovan had played a total of 30 minutes on the same team before the world cup. How are you supposed to know how your team players play if you don't even know them??????

Hydroplanes in Madison 2006
What an absolute tragic ending to the racing in Madison this weekend. Our Seattle Sports Blog reporter was just 10 feet away from the accident that ruined the racing on Sunday. It has yet to be determined whether drinking or drugs were involved in the accident. We here at SBB pray for those families affected by this incident.
The overall weekend was a real bummer for racing fans as debribs in the water didn't allow for ideal racing conditions. Numerous boats were hit by various objects in the water, nearly sending Steve David into a patrol boat in the middle of the course. Our SBB reporter had breakfast with Steve that day and he indicated he was looking forward to the race. Unfortunately for Steve and the rest of the fleet, the racing this weekend was difficult due to the conditions. We hope for better results as we head to Canada!
Oh, yes, those Mariners......just when they get a game out of first, disaster strikes again. 7-1 and 14-6 losses to the Angels isn't exactly showing the division that the team is ready to take over first place.
