Seahawks Defensive Coordinator

It's official, John Marshall is now the official Defensive coordinator for your Seattle Seahawks.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2389018

This might not seem like much a big deal, but it's reassuring to the team to know who the official D coordinator is. If you recall, Ray Rhodes was in question as to whether or not he would be able to fullfill the duties of the position....question answered. Now, Mr.Marshall, let's get some things wrapped up: Blitz more, and give Winstrom 50% of the snaps...he's too slow for our DE.

Mariners 2006 season

Anyone all that excited about this team this year? I'm not, that's for sure. Pickups like Jurassic Carl, Lawton, and Washburn are nice, but what this team really needed was some STRONG starting pitching and better middle relief. These were NOT addressed in the offseason. Can the Mariners please dump dumb ass Chuck Armstrong and Bill Basavi? Hey Basavi, still think that Randy Winn trade was a smart one? Please, someone get Chuck Armstrong out of power in Seattle.....in case you didn't know it, he has more power in the M's organization than the common public knows.....get his ass out of there!

The 2006 Mariners and for the foreseable future are going to be a sub .500 team unless some changes are made. Bring in top management like the Hawks did...and you start winning. What a novel concept, except for the fact that the M's are too cheap to make any real moves. Go Nintendo!

Uconn almost sets record...for MOST free throws in an NCAA game

What a shame...if only those refs would have blown UW for a few more fouls, Uconn would have had the title! Anyone else out there believe UW would have trounced George Mason? I do....

Here are the records (Ucon made 34 while attempting 47, both near records)

Most free throws made
41 Utah vs. Santa Clara, 1960
41 Navy vs. Syracuse, 1986

Most free throws attempted
55 UTEP vs. Tulsa, 1985

UW Hoop Blog: EAST COAST BIAS

There is a black cloud hanging over all Seattle Sports Teams.....and it's called "East Coast Bias." The UW-Uconn game was the WORST officiated game I have seen in a long, long time. All 3 offcials were from the Big East or Big 10 and have never seen UW play. That's only 1/10th of the problem w/ the officiating in that game. Let's be honest folks, ESPN/CBS covers all of those east coast coferences ALL year long and they are much more familiar w/ Uconn. You could even hear the announcer Bill Raferty indicating that "he didn't know much about this team." For God's sake, he knows more about Seton Hall than UW basketball. At some point, UW and the Pac 10 is going to have to lobby for more air time on the major networks or you're going to have more East Coast bias crap like last night.

There were a NUMBER of calls in that game that were killers for UW (anyone recall any calls going against Uconn?). Here's a few: Dentmon fouls out after Williams trips over his own feet. The non-goal tending call..that would have put UW up by 1 in OT. result? Uconn gets the ball and MORE free throws. Speaking of fricking free throws, I HATE more than anything when a game is determined by free throws. Uconn shot 47 of them vs. 23 for UW. That is NOT basketball people and it reminds me of game 7 of the Sonics 1993 season vs. Phoenix when Barkley had 24 himself, 62 as as team. Let the players play the game, you East Coast Assholes! Speaking of Assholes, Rudy Gay is the most overated player in college basketball. He is just another dumb idiot who can dunk the ball, and that's it. He'll go no where in the NBA.

Finally, even the fans at the game knew that game was a joke....did anyone else notice the loud BOOOOOOO's at the end of that game....because the officials won that game for Uconn, no question about it. What an absolute joke! Fuck the East Coast, that's all I can say. Seattle/UW fans, don't be passive about this......call out the NCAA, Seattle Times/Seattle PI writers.......that's the biggest beef I have w/ you fellow Seattle fans....be passionate like the rest of the country and BITCH to go make justice served!

Seahawks sign Tom Ashworth

Didn't take the team too long to find a replacement for Hutch....and a good replacement at that. Enter 3 time Superbowl Champ Tom Ashworth, a 6-6 305 LG that will fill in nicely replacing the $$$$ hungry Hutch. Add another smart move on the part of Tim Ruskell.

Go Hawks!

Gonzaga got robbed!

Let's take a moment and come to the realization that the NCAA will NEVER allow a mid-major to advance to the final four. Every year we (myself included) cheer for these little teams to beat the big bad Texas, UCLA's of the world. After watching last night's deplorable officiating blunders against Gonzaga, I'm thoroughly convinced that the NCAA does not want mid-majors in the final four. That call against Batista w/ .17 second's left was a joke, and he also clearly got fouled on that stripped ball.

Seattle Times quoting JP Batista: ""I thought he [Bozeman] fouled me," Batista said. Few seemed to concur, saying, "The steal at the end, or whatever it was, was a big play."

Let's take an honest, hard look at the facts folks. The NCAA only wants larger schools in the final four....why??? REVENUE!

Here are some figures from Newsweek on the Revenue generated during the tournament.

$11 billion is paid to the NCAA in television rights revenue. Tens of millions more is generated in ticket and merchandise sales. Additionally, an estimated $4 billion is distributed amongst the top schools across the country

Just laying out the facts for you people.

UW Hoop Blog: Keys to the game vs. Uconn

Ok, so it looks like there are others out there that actually think UW has a chance in this game.....

http://msn.foxsports.com/fantasy/story/5435240

UW is going to have to have the game of their lives to pull this game off. Roy will get his 20 points, but where is the rest of the production? Jones and Appleby will have to hit 2-3 three's a piece for UW to stay in this game. Moreover, Brockman and Williams are going to have to post some type of a threat underneath to keep Uconn from keying on the 3. Dentmon will also have to continue his wizardry throughout the tournament (no TO's so far through 2 games).

Keys to stopping Uconn? Keep Booth off the boards (Brockman and Jenson will have their hands full w/ this guy). Also, keep Jones or Roy on Gay and Marcus Williams, their stud point gaurd and shooting gaurd.

This game is going to be closer than most think. If UW can keep it close, they have a shot. Otherwise, it's Uconn by 15.

ESPN College Basketball Joe Lunardi

This guy is supposedly ESPN's "guru" when it comes to picking the brackets. The more I read Si.com, ESPN, and CBSportsline, the more I realize what yutzes these sports guys are idiots. If you want true, honest, come to Seattle Sports Blog. If you want mundane, big market websites w/ 0 liability for their comments, go there.

Here's a few of this guy's gems, from #1-#64: Bradley #50, WASHINGTON #34, Nevada #24, Iowa #21, Ohio State #17, Michigan State #8, and to top it all off.....Indiana at #7.

Tournament Updates

Kudos to the Dawgs for pulling what I consider one of the biggest upsets in the tournament. Everybody came to play that game, especially Jones, Roy, and Dentmon. Roy really caried this team w/ 21 points, 7 rebs, and 3 assist. Illinois could not hit the broad side of a barn in that game, however, and as much as I love UW hoops, they are going to be over-matched vs. Uconn. I see them keeping it close for the first half, w/ Uconn pulling ahead for good w/ about 10 min's left in the second half.

Good luck to Gonzaga as well.......BTW, how is everyone's bracket's looking?

SSB predictions for the NCAA tourney

I'll be in Vega$ betting away on these days, so wish me luck that I "have the vision"

Region by Region Analysis:

Atlanta final four? Duke
Analysis: Everyone seems to be on LSU's bandwagon right now, but Duke is BIG, deep, and can shoot the ball. They have 2 stud big men in McRoberts and Williams. If they can get some help from their other gaurds or SF's, they'll take this to the final four.

Upsets: I see TXA&M over Cuse (Cuse is just out of gas) and Iowa makting it to the elite 8 over TX

Oakland final four? UCLA

This to me is a very weak bracket w/ big questions marks all over: Memphis, Pitt, and KS all have had issues at one point or another this season. As much as I love the Zags, I don't see them being able to get past UCLA. UCLA is on fire right now after trouncing their way through the Pac 10 tournament. The ride should continue

Upsets: not many here, although I see SD St beating Indiana in the first round.

Washington DC final four? Uconn

UConn is deep, fast, athletic, and unbeatable in this bracket. They'll most likely play the winner of the UW-Ill game and should have no problem with either of them. I like Michigan State out of the bottom half of the bracket given their solid big man Davis and lights out shooter Ager. They won't be able to handle Uconn, however

Upsets: I like Wichita State here into the sweet 16 and UAB beating Kentucky in round #1. Gotta love "Squeaky" Johnson

Minneapolis final four? BC This to me is the most intriguing bracket and most unpredictable. I have BC here, but it could be a number of teams: FL, OH St, or Villanova. I like Vill, but w/ their top guy eye in question, it makes you concerned. BC should be able to take Villanova and get to the final four.

Upsets: I like UW-Milwaukee here over Oklahoma...I almost had them advancing past Florida, until I realized the game is being played in Jacksonville...Florida.

Final Four: Again, I normally hate Duke (along w/ 99% of the rest of the country), but I can't see them being taken down this year. Size and a solid shooter will get you far. Hopefully a W in the title game!

March Madness Time: UW gets a #5 seed

UW recieved a favorable #5 seed and should be able to beat Utah State in the opening round. The fact that they are also playing on the West Coast in Oakland should also help. If they get by Utah State, they play the Ill vs. AF winner. If AF can pull off an upset, then UW can get to the sweet 16. I don't seem them being able to handle Illinois inside play.

If you need a bracket.....

Deplorable showing by UW

This team continues to baffle us all w/ winning in AZ one week and then losing in the first round of the Pac 10 Tournament to a joke of a team, Oregon. The second half of that game for UW was absolutely pathetic: a soft zone offense that everyone except Roy seemed flat-footed, terrible ball-handling (even Roy had 5 turnover's), and simply put, the Ducks could not miss 3's (50%+ in the second half). UW has no point guard and it hurt them last night. Dentmon needs to drive to the bucket in those instances and try and create....but instead Romar put the team in the soft zone offense.

Up next? Probably a #6-#7 seed for this team. Which team shows up? The team that beat AZ, UCLA twice, Gonzaga....or the team that lost twice to WSU and to the lowly Ducks.

Good article from ESPN on the M's new catcher. It will be interesting to see how he not only adjust to the game, but the huge language barrier he faces between a pitcher and a catcher.

Support the MXGP Motocross Track in Maltby, Washington

Ban on Chinook fishing

OK, from time to time, we hear at SSB need to write about some different things. Crap like this article kill me: http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2002846983_salmon06.html

"The fishing industries of Washington could lose $150M and many jobs".......what about the fish and the waters? Mankind has RUINED so many rivers and streams that protection like this needs to go into place or we will NOT be eating naturally caught fish ever again.

One of the most intriguing environmental studies I have ever read consisted of an intereview of over 500 CEO's of companies that are considered "Environmental Risk Companies." They were asked the following question: "Would you spend the time and money necessary to make their company more environmentally friendly if it resulted in a 1% loss in revenue?" 488 of those individuals said no......our environment is ruined unless these jackass CEO's change their minds.

Brandon Roy: Pac 10 Player of the Year 2006

Kudos to Brandon Roy for being named Pac 10 Player of the year for 2006. He definitely deserved it averaging nearly 22.0 pts. a game in the Pac 10. Let's hope the dawgs can have a strong showing in the Pac 10 tournament and get a nice #3-#5 seeding in the BIG DANCE....which is just a few weeks away! My favorite time of year other than the NFL season........

Seattle Signs Alexander

It's official, Seattle signed Shaun to an 8 year, cozillion $$$$ contract. Let's be honest folks, we all know that he's not lasting another 8 years, but we have at least locked him up for the next four, which will be his most productive. They will probably re-structure this contract (as all NFL teams are doing w/ their marque players these days) once his #'s start to decline. But for the next 4-5 years, expect great things from this guy.....

Dawgs vs. Zona this weekend

If you are a college basketball junky like myself, then you're in store for a treat this weekend when UW and AZ square off. I can see why these teams played a 2 OT classic in Seattle on New Year's Day given their similarities: both have 4 players averaging double figures scoring (ok, Brockman averages 9.06, but it's close enough given his gerth), both have 6'5 slasher studs (Adams and Roy), both teams rely on the 3 ball w/ no legit big-man underneath to dominate, and it's cats vs. dawgs for Pete's Sake!

UW has a good deal of momentum right now w/ Jenson starting to light it up from outside. UW has played well in AZ these last few years as well. I see this as a 83-77 UW win. Pac 10 Tournament here we come.....
