Hats off to UW basketball
Another solid win yesterday vs. a tough Cal team. I thought this team was done after the deplorable 3 game losing streak, but they managed to fight back. If they can get a good draw in the tournament, I see this team getting to the sweet 16 or elite 8. I don't think they'll have the fire power to get to the Final Four until next year w/ Hawes, but you never know....that's why they call it March Madness folks.
Good luck to UW in the up-coming Pac 10 Tournament and hopefully UCLA will lose to Cal this week. If that's the case, UW wins the Pac 10 w/ wins vs. AZ St. and AZ....a tough task!

UW gets win over Stanford
![]() |
A dominating performance by a team that is coming together at the right time. Stanford looked frazzled all night and couldn't do anything against Washington's Kaleidoscope Defense ( a defense that is EVERYWHERE for you low IQ folk).
Here's my beef w/ this team: John Brockman. For as pumped up as this guy was, he hasn't really shown me much other than that he can rebound. John, I like you man, but please, please, please go to a Pete Newell Big Man camp and get your feet work adjusted. It's the one element he's missing.

Key offseason moves for Hawks
![]() |
Here are my keys to Seattle getting back to the Superbowl:
1. Re-sign Shaun: yes, he's getting up there in age, but he's still got 3-4 years left in him.
2. Retire Ray Rhodes: It was starting to become a bit ambiguous as to who was leading the D last year. Ray, you have had your good years, it's time to step aside. Bring in someone who knows how to blitz!!!
3. Holgrem, you need to mix up your play calling: He started to flirt w/ this by bringing in Seneca Wallace in the playoffs, but abandoned it in the SB......anyone who plays Seattle knows NOT to expect any trick plays. As you can see w/ Pittsburgh in the SB, well timed trick plays can be killers
4. Re-sign Joe J and Hutch: Yes, he's in his 11th year, but he's nails when it comes to being clutch and he's one of Hasselbeck's favorite targets. Hutch is a no-brainer...he's a stud on that left side.
5. Let go of Grant Winstrom: He has lost a step and it showed in the Superbowl. If we are going to stick w/ our conservative 4 man rush, then we need another bookend on the other side for Fisher to be effective. Winstom is not the answer.
6. J. Stevens to have a strong offseason: if he is to improve from his strong 2005 campaign, he must work doublely hard in the offseason. He's youth and inexperience showed in the Superbowl.
7. Sign some strong Free agents: Players will now want to come to Seattle to play. Another Dyson, Sharper, or Fisher signing is key. We need a solid DE and possibly a FS depending on Hamlin.

Letter to the Seattle Seahawks: Att Paul Allen
February 20, 2006
ATT: Paul Allen
Seattle Seahawks
Customer Relationship Department
800 Occidental Avenue South, Ste #500
Seattle, WA 98134
Paul,
I wanted to first and foremost express my gratitude to you for keeping this team in Seattle and making intelligent decisions to bring in the right people to make this a successful organization. I have been a devout fan since 1982 and even have a blog dedicated to the Seahawks and Seattle sports.
I am writing this letter to express my concerns over the way that the NFL willed the Pittsburgh Steelers to win Superbowl XL. I have never considered myself much of a conspiracy theorist until watching that game. As you are well aware, there were numerous calls in that game that changed the MOMENTUM of that game, and momentum is what drives sports. Furthermore, the following day on ESPN.com, 70% of the country believed that the refs in that game had altered the end result of that game. Coupled w/ the fact that the Rooney family made their money gambling, I can only begin to think of the ties that the Rooney's, Paul Tagliabue, and the NFL had in that game for Pittsburgh to win. Moreover, the fact that the NFL allowed them to pass out “terrible towels” to non-partisan fans entering that game made it even more of a joke.
I acknowledge that you are a very powerful man in this world and I hope you use your clout in this league to bring Seattle a championship. The whole country witnessed one of the greatest fixes in sports history and it's unfortunate that it was Seattle that took the brunt of that rigging. Almost every day since that game I have run articles on the blog regarding that game, and everyone has agreed w/ every word I’ve said. I will continue to post these articles until justice is served. The 6,000+ readers we receive every month want what is right: the NFL to admit their wrong doing.
Sincerely,
CEO of Seattle Sports Blog

NFL Total access: On Demand
Ah yes, trying to enjoy a day off on this glorious of all holidays...the President's Day. Truth, honor, country, right?
So, I decided to watch some SB XL highlights on Comcast. As usual, the same painful reminder haunts me: the refs won that game. Further more, I STRONGLY suggest everyone watching the program that features the head of the NFL going over the "5 calls" from SB XL (the show also has an interview w/ Herm Edwards, Pro Bowl stuff...just so you are on the right program). Keep in mind that the NFL owns this channel, and Rich Eisen is the host, who is also part of the NFL. What really gets me is the verbiage that this guys indicated: "I think the official on the field made the right call"......."even though the ref on the field first raised one hand and then 2, we believe he made the right call." This show did nothing to convince me that the NFL wanted Pittsburgh to win this game...and they did. Seattle was robbed and I really hope Paul Allen throws some clout around to make sure Seattle is the team that wins next years SB.

UW post big win vs. those lame ducks
Kudos the UW for a big win vs. those lowly ducks. Hey UW fans, there was a John Brockman sighting. I guess the talking to by Romar in the second half got some fire lit under his ass. Maybe he can continue this into the tournament. UW needed a spark and they got one: 14 points, 7 rebs...all in the second half! Also, Roy stepped it up again. Can you say MVP for the Pac 10 this year? He's hands down the top DAWG in the Pac 10. Come tourney time, however, they will need either Bobby Jones, Jamal Williams, or someone else to carry the load. Top heavy teams go out early in the tourney....balance wins.

T-Man Posts Billboards in Seattle and Pittsburgh:
This is hilarious and I love the fact that the T-Man, like many of us, are not willing to just "get over" the fact we got hosed this year at the Super Bowl. He will probably be posting the same board in Pittsburgh as well.
The T-Mans quote, "I feel bad for the Seahawks, the people of our city, and I almost feel bad for Steeler fans because their Super Bowl win was tainted. You have to be stupid or a Steeler fan to think the Steelers were the better team that day."

Oh those loveable, intelligent Pittsburgh Fans
Boy, I'm glad I don't live in PA......I mean, 50% of the population has a high school degree....that's it! Maybe the NFL wanted them to win the championship for fear of massive rioting in Pittsburgh

UW w/ a big win over UCLA
Wow, did Dentmon step it up or what in this game? He's only a freshman peeps, but he has really rebounded from that Stanford game. Roy was also solid. A bit too much on the refs influence side, however, a Win is a Win in my book. Keep the momentum up as we draw closer to the Pac-10 Tournament and UW could be looking at a #3-#5 seed in the tournament.

D-Jack's Second Touchdown was good as well.......but wierd, it also "never existed".
"A player no longer can be ruled out of bounds when he touches a pylon unless he already touched the boundary line." Straight from the NFL site, ruled changes made in March of 2002!
Again, D. Jackson caught the ball, his left foot hits inbounds then his right foot hits the pylon - TD!!!
In fact John Clayton wrote about this exact rule change on ESPN as well: "A player will be ruled in bounds if he touches the pylon at the goal line before going out of bounds. For example, a pass would be considered complete if one foot touches the pylon and the other foot is in bounds". Which happened exactly as the rule is written to the letter. Unreal.

Feel to free to send this version w/ your own edits to the league:

NFL
Att: Paul Tagliabue

New York, NY 10017
Paul,
That was one of the most lopsided referring jobs I have ever seen in my entire life. I know there are ex-NFL guys in the WWF, so are you now recruiting their officials? Bill Leavy and that entire crew should be fired, unless of course you and the NFL had some say in the final outcome. The entire Nation knows that game was fixed for "questionable" calls to go Pittsburgh's way. It's impossible to rig an NFL game, but hell, you certainly can tell the refs to make sure Pittsburgh wins.
There are a number of disturbing calls from that game that makes me believe you or someone in the NFL organization pretty much guaranteed the Rooney's to win that game. The TD by there quarterback was a perfect example. The rules state that is must be "indisputable" evidence that would overturn the call on the field. Didn't the line judge's questioning himself by raising one arm to spot the ball, and then a second after nearly 5 seconds give the replay officials an idea that it should have been overturned?
You just pissed off the 6th richest man in the world, who could own this league and own you especially. You preach parity in this great league, none of which was shown this weekend. You think a team from New York would have been given that treatment? You would have had to move the NFL offices if that was the case. 70% of the nation agreed on ESPN that your officiating crew blew that game for Seattle.
I hope you are glad that you were able to get the Rooney's another NFL title. Art Rooney made his fortunes by gambling and it appears still today that the NFL is tied in with gambling. I hope you made the odds makers in Vegas happy.
Seattle won that Superbowl in the minds of 70% of the country. The other 30% is the state of Pennsylvania and your mafia you call the NFL.

The NFL is rigged!
If you want a non-media based account of what happened in the game this weekend, read on. If you are looking for more fluff from KJR, Seattle Times, and Seattle PI on how the refs were not the problem, then you can stop reading.
I am now a firm believer that the NFL is rigged after watching this game. Pro sports is now more about merchandising and business as opposed to a game. The NFL has now officially partnered w/ the WWF and has learned how to make more money by allowing the more marketable team win.
I strongly suggest everyone write a letter to the league office complaining about the officiating in the game. The only reason you don't hear the team complaining more about it is because they will be fined. It was a joke. The referee's won that game.....not Pittsburgh. The NFL preaches "parity": parity does not equate to home field advantage calls for a 99% pro Steeler fan base at the game.
Here is the address to the NFL:
National Football League
ATT: Paul Tagliabue
280 Park Avenue
New York, NY 10017
Here is a re-cap of all the bad calls.....and I'm sure I'm missing more.
Jackson TD call: a joke. Result? A FG instead of 7
Fathead Rothesberger TD: a joke. Result? 7-3 Pitt lead
Pruit holding call on 35 yard punt return: a joke. Result? Seattle put back on their own 25 yard line instead of Pitt 45
Locklear holding call: a joke. Result? Instead of having first and goal for a go-ahead TD, Seattle is faced w/ a 3rd and 20 from the Pitt 35. Even Madden thought that call was a joke.
Hasselbeck chop block call? a real joke. Result? Pitt gets the ball at the 45 instead of the 20, 2 runs, then, the reverse. Ball game
People......write the NFL and let them know that this GAME was a joke.
Also, you can post a petition about the NFL here: http://www.petitiononline.com/nfl12006/petition.html
Everyone around the country is writing about this game folks.....it's not just Seattle fans.
As far as what this team needs to do next? Sign Alexander, and get rid of Stevens....the 5 year experiment is over. I'd rather have Shockey

Final Keys to the game...just get the W
It's time to have everyone shut up, especially the national media, and just play Sunday. What's even more infuriating is that the national media is making fun of Seattle....I truely hope we shut everyone up this weekend. It's time to prove we are a better team...which I believe we are.
I will say this: I am VERY dissappointed by the lack of support the Hawks have had in Detroit. It's 50 to 1 Steelers fans, and 49 of these people aren't even going to the game. Yes, geographically speaking, it's easier for Pitt fans to get there and cheer....but WHERE ARE YOU SEATTLE???? I know, this is a our first trip to the Superbowl and will take some time to mature as fans. We don't have the storied history as other franchises, but for Shit's sake, where your Hawks pride when you travel, especially when this team is ON THE ROAD in the SB. I hope the Seattle writers are calling out the Hawks fans. What's even more troubling is that I've heard 40% of Seattle fans have sold their SB tickets....guess who bot them??? Steelers fans. Pitiful. If you want Championships Seattle, you better start acting like real fans.

I think Joey Porter thinks he's Apollo Creed...have you heard this guy talk? He sounds like a boxer......"I'm gonna come out punchin'" and "now I'm fired up"
This guy is a tool.....just like Big Ben. Hope they get drunk after the game when they lose.

Third "Keys to the game" Matchups
Blah, blah, blah Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh. Man, I tell ya, I can't take much more of the national spotlight on this team. It's like they are playing ghost on Sunday. Think the nation will be shocked Sunday? Yup. My question over and over again is what will they say when we beat Pittsburgh? First it was that the Redskins were weak, or that Carolina was w/out a running back. I can't wait to read the headlines Monday.
3 additional matchups to look for:
Pitts WR vs. Seattle Secondary: This advantage has to go to Pittsburgh. Hines Ward is an amazing WR and Big Ben can spread it around. Seattle's secondary dominated WA and Carolina, but that's because both of those teams were one dimensional (Moss/Smith). Seattle will have their hands full vs. Pittsburgh's
WR group
Special Teams: Advantage Pittsburgh again. One reason: Randel El.....he is electric, and had 2 punt returns for TD's. Warrick has potentional, but I don't think Seattle's punt coverage is disciplined enough to block well for him.
Seattle LB's/DE's/DT's vs. Pitt RB/OL. Advantage Seattle. I don't think Pittsburgh realizes how physical Darby, Bernard, and Lofa are up front and they will take care of moving them around. Bettis? We stopped Goings, so we should be able to do the same vs. Bettis. Imagine what a collective gasp would occur if Bettis was taken out in the first series by a Lofa hit.....watch out Bus, their a Tatupu train headed your way.
FYI, Seahawks, look out for Pittsburgh to start playing dirty if they get down....look at what they did to Carson Palmer.

Second "Keys to the game" Matchups
Man, ENOUGH already w/ the hype, let's bring this game and let the pads start talkin!
Here are a few position by position matchups as I see them:
Seattle O line vs. Pitts LB's: This is a straight tie here....Farrior and Porter are strong, physical LB's. One is the leading tackler, one is the leading sacker. On the flip side, Seattle doesn't have 2 #1 picks on one side the line for nothing. These men are mountains and will be able to effectively block Pittsburgh's blitzing. It will be a test of braun + intelligence that will win this battle.
QB: Hasselbeck vs. Roethlisberger: Advantage Seattle. Matt has really matured here in this role this year and has proven he can play in pressure games. Same can be said about Big Ben, but the guy is 24 years old. He will CRACK this weekend if we get good pressure on him. Pressuring the QB this weekend is going to be the key of the game.
Seattle WR vs. Pitt secondary: Besides Polamalu, Pitts does not have anyone in the secondary that really scares me. The combination of DJax, Joe J, Engram, and let's not forget a red hot Stevens, gives Seattle so many weapons. Throw in Seneca Wallace on a few trick plays here and there and Seattle can and will be unstopable. Polamalu is flat out amazing, no question, but he CANNOT cover 4 people at once. Look for the Seattle WR's to have big games.
More to come tomorrow!
