Couple notes on the "with the exception of the late '70's Sonics, we have no other professional sports championship team." comment:
I recognize that girl sports somehow don't count, but Seattle has had a championship team - The Storm in 2004 (they even made the finals in 2005). And there was lots of city pride following the win.
Additionally, the Sonics went to the nba finals in 96.
