Boy, was Saturday a Seattle Sports Fan grandest day ever, or what? Not only did Seattle whooop up the Skins, but UW pulled out a great, great win vs. UCLA AT UCLA. So, not only did the Hawks win for the first time in the playoffs since 1984, UW won in the first time in UCLA since 1986! The Sun does actually shine in Seattle.
Hawks: Gutty, gutty win. I give the credit to Holgrem for calling a great game minus Alexander, for Hasselbeck finally calming down and playing smart (his tendancy to just lob the ball up when he's under pressure still worries me), and the DEFENSE! Man, talk about big hit after big hit in that game. And where was Santana Moss? Besides his LUCKY and I mean LUCKY TD, we really shut him down. We'll need to more of the same next week vs. the "Michael Jordan" of WR in the NFL....Steve Smith. He is ridiculously talented and I got to admit, a thrill to watch. TO......where are you and all your smack talkin? Trying to make a few buck doing commercials...you're a joke. OK, enough TO stuff.
I can't express enough about what a monkey it was for this team and city to get that first W in the playoffs. There are still a few things this team needs to work on this week before facing Carolina.
1. Hang on to the damn ball Jimmy Williams and Scobey.....these guys drive me crazy...especially Scobey. He fumbled on the first play of the season for Seattle....why does he still get to handle the ball?
2. As good as the D was, they need to get better for a much more talented Carolina team. We need to blitz Jake D...he's similar to Hasselbeck in that he cracks under pressure a bit...and can make some mistakes.
3. We will need to have Alexander back for this game. A win vs. a beat up WA team is one thing, a Carolina team on fire right now is another. I hope he can play.
4. I can't comment enough on getting pressure on Jake D....especially w/ their starting RB out w/ a broken ankle. Make the blitzes at the right time and we have this game.
5. Most importantly...CROWD NOISE! Keep up Seattle....we're almost there!
