This Week’s Opponents
Golden State: The Sonics enter this week’s matchup having dropped their previous two meetings with the Warriors, but own a 16-3 edge all-time at KeyArena (70-30 in Seattle, overall). Seattle and Golden State split a four-game set last season with each team posting one road win. The Sonics have gone 5-7 against the Warriors over the last three seasons after posting a 37-5 record in the previous 10.
Houston: Seattle managed just one win in four tries against Houston last season, getting swept at home by the Rockets for the first time in 12 seasons. Seattle averaged just 84.5 points in the four meetings, its lowest average against any Western Conference opponent. The Sonics and Rockets have split the season series in three of the past five years, and split the last 20 regular-season meetings overall.
Portland: After 180 all-time meetings, the I-5 rivals are separated by just two games with the Sonics holding a narrow 91-89 advantage. Seattle took three of four meetings last season but has won only once in its last six trips to Portland. On 3/24/05, the last time the Sonics traveled to the Rose Garden, Damien Wilkins posted a career-high 21 points.
Sonics in the Community
The Sonics and Storm will make their 13th annual visit to Children’s Hospital and Regional Medical Center (4800 Sand Point Way N.E., Seattle) today, Dec. 12, at 2:30 p.m. Sonics and Storm players, coaches, broadcasters and front-office members will distribute presents and spend time with the patients. The event is closed to the public but open to media. Media planning to attend should arrive at the “giraffe” entrance no later than 2:15 p.m.
Allen Climbs All-Time List
Sonics All-Star Ray Allen enters the week needing just three three-pointers to pass Tim Hardaway for fourth place on the NBA’s all-time three-pointers-made list. Allen is 20 treys shy of entering the top-three in league history. The NBA’s all-time top-five is as follows:
