It was not pretty and this game was one that they probably should have lost, but a W is a W in the NFL. This was probably more of a crushing blow to NYG than a satisfying win for Seattle. Seattle really needs to learn from their mistakes from this game, especially on Defense. This "bend but not break" mentality will only carry this team so far. On the 4 final drives of NYG, they marched all over our soft zones and four man rush. It drives me CRAZY that they stick w/ the zone, don't blitz Tatupu, and stay in that zone even on the goal line. Think about it people....playing zone on the goal line on that 2 point conversion is about the worst defense you should call. You can only cover so much area that leaves people wide open. I don’t mind the zone as much on the 3rd and 14+ yards plus, but send a LB or a FS!!!! I also still have trepidations for Hasselbeck. Until he made that 2nd and 20 pass to Hackett, he did nothing in the clutch. Pay attention to his feet in pressure situations.....he gets happy feet and you can see his nervousness. He needs to be more calm and collective in these situations. He did have solid #'s however and continues to excel w/out D.Jackson around.
The positives? Alexander is a stud and should be the MVP of the league. No questions asked, no east coast/west coast bias. 4th and 1 on the NYG 5? Gutzy call (which I loved), but when you have an MVP, run the ball. They should have continued running the ball in the OT as well and it took until the last drive to figure that out. Also, J. Jurevicius is an absolute stud as well. Hasselbeck has a new favorite receiver and the guy is pure money. Finally, the crowd did a great job of keeping this team up when they needed it. The announcers said over and over again that they could not believe how loud the stadium was.....keep it up...this team needs it.
The way this team has been winning games, it kind of reminds me of the 1980 Cleveland Browns team that was nicknamed the Cardiac Kids. That team won something like 6 games in the last 2:00 minutes of a ton of games that year and got into the playoffs. The same fate that got that team into the playoffs inevitably got them in trouble....an overtime loss on the last play of the game. Let's hope history doesn't repeat itself.
Bottom line, BIG, BIG win....but more improvements need to be made. Home field advantage here we come!
