Keys to the game: @ Washington

Honestly, Seattle should be able to take this game. Washington has showed NOTHING this year so far w/ their 2-0 record other than the fact they have a good D. A 9-7 win vs. Chicago and a 14-13 win vs. Dallas isn't exactly tearing up the NFL these days needless to say.

Keys to this game:

1. As I always say, Hasselbeck needs to be consistant, make smart plays, and not have turnovers. They will come after him, so he's got to be able to read the hot routes.

2. Take the crowd out of the game early. Ride the momemtum of a 2 game winning streak and get up early and hopefully sustain a big rally.

3. Open up the deep threat. Point #2 can be accomplished by throwing a couple of play-action deep bombs to Jackson early. WA will probably think we'll be coming out run, run, run, so run, run, run and hit them w/ a bomb on a play action.

Good luck Hawks, I think it will be a close one....

Hawks Game #3: that's how you win ballgames

If you can believe it, no qualms this week from the Seattle Sports Blog guy on this weeks game. They played great in all areas: they blitzed at the right time, Hasselbeck played perfectly (no mistakes), and Holgrem did not go ultra conservative in the 2nd half. Great W and things are looking better since the Jax loss.

Up next, a pesky Redskins team that is fresh off a big upset in Dallas. They might be feeling comfortable back in DC, so I think Seattle has an excellent shot to take one. Then, off to St.Louis for the real test of the season.

Forbes top 400

Any thoughts on Mr. Allen being #3 on this list....everything else he seems to touch turns to gold, why not the Hawks? If Holgrem isn't winning playoff games this year, I say c-ya, it's time to bring in some top talented coach and GM. Yeah, Daniel Snider isn't exactly buying SBowl wins left and right, but I think it can work in Seattle. Let's get a dynasty here, bottom line.

Game #3: AZ Cards

So, same sort of recipe this week that I had vs. the Jags. Hasselbeck must have a consistant game, bottom line. I feel that AZ will be blitzing ALOT, and he's got to be able to read the blitzes and make quick decisions. Otherwise, it's another 2 INT, 2 fumble game for that guy. The QB is by far the most important position in football..they handle the ball the most, from snap to hand off to throw....consistancy wins ballgames (aka Brady). The other key? The team as a whole needs to "pay attention" to this game. W/ big games against Washington and St. Louis on the road, they can't look ahead. Stay focused on this game, and get to 2-1.

Madison the Movie

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, this movie is a must have. I just watched the DVD version last night and it's a great, great story, regardless if you are a hydroplane fan or not. I will point out one minor gaff in the "bonus feature section." Jim Caviezel, the main actor (and should be noted took a HUGE paycut to make this movie being a hydroplane/Seattle native), is I believe misquoted in the extras. He mentions as a child the shock and horror he felt when Chip Hanauer died.....Chip's still alive, and I think Jim was trying to say Bill Muncey. Jim was probably tired from doing "Passion of the Christ" or something, but it should be corrected in the next DVD version. Besides the point, the movie is one of the best I have ever seen.

Hydroplane season draws to a close

In the first season w/out the Bud, the sport as a whole did a great job of keeping competition high and introducing new venues. I firmly believe that this sport is headed in the right direction now after years of up and down seasons. The really good news is the amount of new ownership pumping in new $ as well as more competitve racing. Let me once again give the ABRA series kudos for running an up to the minute, well organized website for the course of this season: http://www.abrahydroplanes.com/ If you haven't been to this site yet and your a hydroplane fan, then you're in for a treat!

Congrats to Dave Villwock and the entire Ellstrom Team for the 2005 National High Points

Congrats also to The Oh Boy Oberto Team and Steven David for the National Driver High Points

A win for the Hawks, but....

Yeah, I know, I'm probably this teams hardest critic, but let's face it AGAIN, Holgrem does not know how to close out games. A 21-0 lead? Keep throwing the ball....get up 35-0! The Dolphins were a good example of this last week vs. Denver. They were up 24-7...what did they call on thier first play of the second half? A bomb, which resulted in a 31-7 lead...GAME OVER.

BTW, I think Seattle let a talent go w/ letting Lucas leave. He looked great today for Carolina. Trufant is great, but Lucas was glue on the NE recievers all day.

Like father, Like son?

Ah yes, the post Sonic championship days of the early 80's. Hot prospects like John Sunvold, Danny Young, and an older Jack Sikma. Let's not forget Steven Hawes either in 84', a Husky local legend on his last legs. I can recall my brothers playing in a 3-3 tourney down in the Dome parking lot in 87', and low and behold, there's Steve Hawes playing. He DOMINATED, needless to say. Hopefully his son will commit to UW as well.....

Huskies vs. CAL (9.10.05)

Well, we knew we were not going to have a stellar season but a serious butt kicking wasn't quite in the works either. Either way, this is how college football is, some years you're stacked and other years you're building a team and working on getting it stacked for a Rose Bowl run.......or you're an Ivy League school and no matter what year it is you get ranked because you have a pretty name brand that goes nicely on white visors worn at Dave Matthews Band concerts.

Week #2: Atlanta

Well, this team could be 0-2 before we know it. Anyone watching the Monday night game will get a taste of what Seattle is going to face. A young, hungry team w/ a great coach and a QB that is impossible to defend. What the Hawks should look to do is contain Vick, since you really can't stop him.

Ideas from the visitors out there?

My thoughts are that on 2nd and 3rd down, they stay in the Nickle/Dime regardless of the yardage to the first and run a "box in one" vs. Vick. Yes, yes, it's basketball lingo, but it makes sense. It's like the old days when Seattle used to have Bosworth Shadow Elway: same concept, except you stick someone w/ actual defensive talent against the QB such as Sharper or even a Hamlin or Boulware that have more speed.

Offensively....well, it's pretty simple: Hasseljoke doesn't through 3 INT's and fumble. Run the ball as much as possible, get M. Morris 5-8 carries, give the ball to Mack Strong, run a reverse...whatever! Just get the ball and decision making out of the hands of Hasseljoke.

Anyone think Wallace starts by game #4?

Hawks game #1

Did I call it or what? Hasselbeck REAALLLY struggled this week and he looked terrible. 3 INT's, fumbles, confusion. Let's hope he can turn it around soon or this season is done.

Hawks Game #1

Keys to the game this weekend against Jax:

-Control the line of scrimage: Jax has a huge D line and will cause problems for Seattle's weak right side

-Hassleback needs to play smart: this will be a 17-10 Seattle win if he plays smart. If he's not on, this game is Jax's for the taking

-D needs to make smart blitz decisions: Any QB in the NFL w/ enough time can look like an all-star. Blitzing Lefwich w/ correct timing and personel (i.e. a corner blitz, OSL blitz, etc.) will be critical.

Good luck...it will either be a narrow Seattle win or a 30-10 Jax win

September 2, 2005

As we head into the long weekend....

Had to take care of a few things (like getting married and a honeymoon), but SSB is back in full effect. A few things since the last entry:

Congrads to Jean Theoret and team for the Seafair victory. I can't believe 80 year old Bill Wurster jumped into Lake Washingon!

The M's? Well, Hernandez looks like a great prospect for now. The rest of the team? I think it's officially time to call Beltre the largest bust in team history...more than Jeffrey Lenord, Mitchell, or anyone else...he's hitting .250 w/ 17 homers. Pressley put up better numbers than that!

Hawks? There are 2 things that this team needs to do immediately in order to not be a 7-9/8-8 team: Get rid of Ray Rhodes and his conservative defenses. He does NOT know how or when to call blitzes, bottom line. He's got the talent this year, but his inability to call a good defensive game will shine through. The other aspect? Holgrem needs to call a few trick plays and open the offense up to the Shotgun. Of course in the 80's when he was w/ the niners, the shotgun wasn't needed because teams didn't blitz as much. Now, on a 3rd and 10+ yards, teams will blitz the hell out of this team since it will take at least a 5 step drop for Hassleback's receivers to get down field. Also, can anyone out there name the last time Seattle ran a trick play? A fake FG? A fake punt? A reverse? The reason New England is so good is that they mix a few of these into the course of the game at the RIGHT time. Mike H. has no idea what time it is anyways.....

Glad to be back and as always....post your thoughts!

MX tracks around Seattle

For this entry I thought I'd discuss the various motocross, motorcross, and supercross tracks around seattle and the northwest in general.

- First off, my favorite at the moment is MXGP out in Monroe. It's got the hits, the turns, 3 tracks (1 for kids) and it isn't far away so you can get out there and back in one day without your arms and legs falling off. www.mxgpr.com THIS TRACK HAS BEEN SHUT DOWN BUT A NEW ONE IS IN THE WORKS IN GRANITE FALLS. STAY TUNED FOR DETAILS.
