all time seattle sonics roster

  Posted:

All right folks, time to submit your entries for your top Sonics teams. Here's my entries.....

SG: Fred Brown. Downtown was one of the first legitimate 3 point shooting threats in the league. A smooth touch from the arc.

Close second and third: Ray Allen and Dale Ellis. Now that Seattle has signed him long term, Allen will be #1 in a few years

PG: G. Payton. Not much competition here, although Gus Williams was pretty productive for a number of years. Gary played a long time in a soups uniform and should have his # retired when it's all said and done.

Center: Jack Sikma. Again, not much debate here. Jack was a solid 16 pt. 11 reb guy for a number of years for this organization. Seattle really hasn't had much of a history of centers when you think about it: Benoit B (ouch), Alton Lister, Marvin Webster, Paul Silas (in his later years), Ervin Johnson....you get the point.

SF: Detlef S. this one a bit more difficult to chose, given that Seattle has had some good SF in their day. X-man was really more of a SF w/ Chambers playing PF, so you can't really classify him here. Detlef really personified the SF position. Assist, Rebs, and points....he did it all in his primetime. Other notables: Jonny Johnson

PF: Shawn Kemp. this one's a bit tougher, but I would give the nod to Kemp. Growing up watching him dunk over people was memories of mine at the ole' Coliseum I'll never forget.

Close 2nd: Lonnie Shelton

List looks pretty good, but not sure how you can leave Nate McMillin and Lenny Wilkins off this list...

Also, I think you have to Put Michael Cage on the list for all time greatest interviewers given that his vocabulary surpasses most PhD's...

My All-Sonics Team:

PG:GP-easy

SG:Ray-not nearly as easy, but has that intangible, leadership. DT only avg. 23pts once in his career and the year we won the championship, he avg 14pts/2.2reb/3.4asst

SF: X-Man '86-87 23pts/8.6rebs/2.5asst/1.4st
.6blks and a god damn attitude!!!!!!!!

PF: Kemp-although Spencer Haywood was pretty good.

C: Sikma-besides him and Bob Rule (going old school on ya), the only centers that decided to play for our beloved city.
