Bill Raftery...enough said

Bill and the guys.JPG

My bachelor party weekend no less, I ran into one of my idols this weekend (see pic). Needless to say, this made my weekend. A fricking basketball hoop legend, we ran into him at a bar in Carmel about 1:58AM. He's a funny, funny guy who I wish I had about 10 days w/ to just talk hoops. He gave us plenty of "W/ the Kiss" and "Man to Man's" that we absolutely right on cue. Dom, thanks man, for finding this guys....cause I was too drunk to tell him from the wall.

Ho-hum

It's sort of a boring time in Seattle sports....I'm NOT at all excited about the Seahawks this year. I'm thinking (and hoping) this is the last year for Holgrem and Rhodes. I can't stand either of them, period. The M's? They have more holes than a pre-teen's poch marks. Sexson and Beltre are starting to come around a bit, but the pitching is deplorable. What to look forward to? Hydroplanes in August and an 8-8 Seahawks team.

So ends a good run

Regardless of last night's outcome, it was a great game and a great series. Give San Antonio credit, especially Tim Duncan. As much as I hate Manu, Duncan is the real deal, and he plays the game the way it's supposed to be played. Manu should try and become an actor when he retires from basketball. These last two games, you could really see the 3's missing from Lewis and Vlad. The outcome may have been the same, but I would have seen Seattle winning last night w/ them.

So, the BIG QUESTION IS THIS: What do the Sonics do in the offseason? OK, I'm tired of hearing all this about Ray Allen. If Schultz has any idea of what basketball is, he should know that Allen is a top 5 player in the league w/ at least another 4-5 years left in him. Also, keep Ridnonur, Collison, James, Daniels, Vlad, Evans as the nucleus. What? No R. Lewis? I think he's prime trade bait for a top 1st round pick. Notwithstanding his injury, he showed in the playoffs he's soft. Also, I'm tired of the Fortson antics....let em go. Sign a top free agent. Also, Luke, work on your shot this offseason....he's got the talent, just needs a more reliable shot. Until draft day 2005..........

P.S. Will Seattle's 7 foot redhead ever see playing time? I think that guy was a WASTE of a first round selection.

Better on the road..but still lose

They can at least hang their hats on playing better on the road this game. I hate to say it, but it was Allen that lost this game for Seattle. They were down 5 in the fourth and looking to pull even. However, he missed 3 consecutive 3's, and before you know it, Manu was hitting 3's like a man possesed. I have been blessing the fact that Lewis has been out, however, Seattle could have used him tonight. They needed a slasher w/ a big dunk to rile the team, and that was noticeably missing.

Ok, ok, I've been dissing Manu as the greatest actor ever to play in the leaguge....which is true, however, he did hit some circus shots that impressed me. STILL, IN A REAL GAME OF BASKETBALL (NOT THE NBA), THERE IS NO WAY THIS GUY IS GOING TO THE FREE THROW LINE 17 TIMES!!!!

I expect Seattle to win hands down game 6. Let's hope Lews is back because I don't think they'll need him to win game 6, however, they will definitely need him in Game 7.

Impressive Game #4, series tied 2-2

Well, well, well, look what happens when you take an non-factor out of the line-up...Soups by 20! Again, Rashard Lewis' lax approach to these playoffs has hurt this team and I hope he doesn't start when he get back.

Watching the game from the cozy confines of Mr. Tyler's mansion in Wallnut Creek, Seattle looked dominating. I have been calling out Ridnour this whole series and the guy stepped up, big time. He hit 3's, dished the ball, and played good D on Parker. Let's hope he can keep up the intensity in San Antonio. Allen, what can you say? He is the #1 pure shooter in the league, period end. Collison als had a stellar game. That guy was everywhere, keeping offensive rebounds alive, getting steals, and just overall great hustle.

Expect more of San Antonio getting more calls at home. Even in Seattle, THEY GOT MORE FREE THROWS THAN SEATTLE in Game #4. The Soups can't even get more calls at home?!?!? Frickin ridiculous...is Ginobili David Stern's long lost cousin from Europe? That guy sure seems to get a lot of love for being an average player. He reminds me a lot of Jeff Hornacek...another guy I couldn't stand.

Seattle holds off for game 3

Did I fricken call it or what? Manu Ginobili is the biggest whiner/actor in the NBA. If you were watching the game on ESPN, even Tom Tolbert mentioned EXACTLY what I lamented about that guy…this isn’t the Euro soccer fields anymore, Manu.

A good win for Seattle and at least their not going out 4-0. AGAIN, where is R. Lewis? He is NOT a big time player, enough said. 3-10 FG? And Ridnour? 4-11 FG? At least Luke has an excuse being guarded by a quicker opponent. Lewis is 6 -10 for God’s sake, play like it! San Antonio has no one that can match up w/ him. Barry???? Horray? He should be putting in at least 20 points a game in this series. James continues to play well and had some ferocious dunks on Dunkin tonight. I think Timmy (no relation to South Park) thought all the good centers were gone in the West when Shaq left….think again.

Game 4 should also be interesting. Again, I unfortunately do not see Seattle pulling this off simply because San Antonio gets way too many calls at home…especially flopper Ginobili and the rest of the NBA (Nothing But Acting) Spurs.

Game 2, more of the same

Too much of the 3 headed monster for Seattle to contain. Again, Ridnour is an ok guard in his second season, but Parker is making him look like a highschooler out there. He's just too quick for Luke to hang with. I still can't stand Ginobili though. In real life (Not the Nothing But Acting league), he's a sub-par SG. There is NO WAY this guy should be going to the free throw line 10 times...he's a FLOPPER!

I think Charles Barkley said it best in the post game wrap....Seattle just doesn't have enough weapons to hang w/ San Antonio, especially w/ Radmo out.

I look for Seattle to hopefully come out guns a blarin' in game 3 with a revved up Seattle crowd. Hopefully Ridnour can feel more comfortable at home and play w/ some fire in his belly. Hopefully Fortson or James put Bowen on his arse as well. Seattle fans, go crazy, cause this team is going to need all the support they can get to hopefully pull even 2-2.

Seattle Finally Gets to see Supercross

This post is late but I figure better late than never as I'm a huge MX fan.

I shed a tear, actually several, when the KingDome was blown to smithereens years ago........and mainly because I knew that it would be too long before we'd get to see SuperCross in Seattle.

After watching ArenaCross for the last 5 years down at the T-Dome, I was ready for some good 'ol dirt riding in downtown Seattle!

Overall, great races, Tedesco sealed the 125cc title but rode like crap in the wet ruts, its' like he had never seen one before or was injured or something. I'd stay in 125cc and keep domainating, why go race Bubba, Carmicheal, and Chad Reed, are you nuts!? I don't say this because I don't think he can beat them, I say it because I think there are too many huge competitors at the top right now.

Bubba, he dominated and won the 250cc race but it appeared as though he pretty much slammed Chad Reed off the track right after the hole shot on turn one. Carmicheal came in 2nd after crashing and knocking himself out earlier in the week. The award goes to Chad Reed though who after getting slammed off the track into last place, came back to win 3rd place. I couldn't believe it, he was smokin' people left and right.

Recommendations: More close-ups of the number girl for each race start, she's insanely hot. Shoot the t-shirts way up into the audience instead of throwing them to the 5 people in row one, that's lame.

Soups in trouble in game #1

Losing the game was one thing, but losing in the fashion they lost is another. Even when Radmo and Allen went down, they were down by 15 and beginning to spiral in the wrong direction. San Antanio runs a pretty good offense and I don't think Seattle was prepared for the quickness of Parker. He is lightening, bottom line, and tough to guard.

The one thing that bothers me more than anything in the NBA is the amount of acting and joke calls the home team gets. The NBA should really stand for "Nothing But Acting." Ginobli especially, count how many times that dude flops to the floor. He's a whiney European who probably got too many red cards in soccer, so switched to hoops.

Bottom line, Seattle will need to come out w/ more intensity and throw San Antonio around a bit in game 2. Enter, Fortson and James. Both players will have to step up their physical play to combat San Antonio's play. As I've mentioned in previous blogs, again, Ridnour and Lewis must step up and play well for this team to advance.

What's up w/ the Mariners?

Yeah, yeah, Beltre's off to a tough start, but there's something else going on here. Boone, Reed, and Sexson are all hitting below .250, which isn't bad, but there just doesn't seem to be much in regards to run production. Is it Ichiro? Should he be moved to clean-up? What do you think pitchers fear most? Belte w/ one on (most likely Ichiro) who's hitting .223, or Ichiro w/ the bases loaded and no outs? What about having Reed lead off, followed by Winn, and Beltre w/ Ichiro batting fourth? Given this teams horrible start, it might not be a bad idea.

Pitching seems to be so-so as well. Franklin has proven he is NOT starting material. Guardardo has done a "steady-Eddy" job in the bullpen, so I don't think it's an Ayala situation. It will be interesting to see how Madtrich does coming back hopefully full steam. Sele also seems to be struggling, however, if you remember, he had a 4.51 ERA when he won 17 games w/ the M's a few years back. He's an ok pitcher when he gets run support, bottom line.

I expect this team to turn things around, but it will be difficult to do w/ their upcomming schedule w/ Boston and NY on the road (especially given NY's desperate need for W's). This team needs to stay positive and weather this storm.

Game, set, and match

Once again, Ray Allen leads the charge as the Sonics prevail. The game was a little closer than expected, but a W's a W. R.Lewis and especially N.Collison played extremely well. Collison can be a double-double kind of guy for the Sonics in the future.

A look ahead.....most likely will be San Antonio. Great outside shooting w/ Gionobli, Barry, and others. Parker is an incredibly quick point guard as well. Last but not least, Duncan will be a load for James to handle. Not being too much of a pesimist, but I don't see Seattle getting past this team. Besides, the NBA seems to love this team, which means that San Antonio will be getting most of the calls. San Antonio 4-2.

Soups take strong 3-1 lead

Ray Allen is the real deal. He is probably the #2 or #3 guy in the league, just behind McGrady and Iverson. His display last night showed that he is a man amongst boys in the Sacramento series. As I say blog after blog, if Seattle does not re-sign this guy, they are dumbest team in the NBA.

Rashard Lewis still seems very tenative coming back from his ankle injury. He just doesn't seem to be there a 100% of the time and his shot and timing seem a bit off. So far in this series, J.James looks more like the allstar instead of Lewis.

Who really impressed me last night was Collison. Time after time, he grabbed key rebounds, and post more of a scoring threat than Evans. I would expect to see Collison a starter next year. Fortson continues to seem lost in this series. His solid free throw % sure helps in key situations.

Expect Seattle to come out firing tomorrow night, a pumped up CROWD, and a 4-1 series. Time to start looking and analyzing at the Den/San Antonio series.
